Managing payouts at scale starts with efficient, reliable account funding. However, once you operate across regions, funding your payouts can feel like guesswork.
Different countries use different banking rails, settlement speeds vary, and the funding method you choose can quietly shape everything from payout timing to cash flow predictability.
Trolley is built to handle that complexity for you. We support a range of region-specific funding methods—traditional bank transfers, local instant rails, and newer options like payment processor funding—so you can move money into your Trolley balance in a way that fits how your business actually runs.
This guide walks through the funding options available by region, explains why those differences matter, and helps you decide which approach makes sense based on speed, cost, and scale. Whether you’re funding weekly payouts or reacting to real-time demand, you’ll have a clear picture of what’s available and how to plan ahead.
What we cover
Why funding options matter
Different regions and banking networks support different payment rails, and your funding choice can affect:
- Settlement speed (instant vs. next business day vs. 3–5 days)
- Fees and processing costs
- Transfer limits and currency support
Understanding your options ensures predictable payout flows and better cash management across your business.
Funding in North America
United States
Trolley provides multiple account funding options to its US merchants sending out domestic and international payments.
- ACH transfers: Funds typically arrive the next business day, making ACH a good balance of speed and cost‑effectiveness for recurring funding.
- Wire transfers: Domestic wires settle the same day; international wires typically arrive within 3–5 business days.
- Direct debit (select US merchants): Pull funds directly from linked bank accounts. Current limits are up to 50,000 USD with a 3–5 business‑day waiting period.
- Direct payment processor funding (select US merchants): Fund your Trolley balance using incoming revenue from connected processors such as Stripe, PayPal, and other PSPs. This capability is currently in beta for select US merchants and supports USD‑only settlements.
Canada
Canadian clients can fund their Trolley accounts through:
- EFTs: Funds typically settle the next business day, making EFTs ideal for regular funding cycles.
- Wire transfers: Best for high‑value or urgent deposits. Domestic wires settle the same day.
- Interac e‑Transfer®: Offers near‑instant funding (generally within minutes to an hour) for smaller amounts up to 10,000 CAD—ideal when you need to send payouts immediately. Note: e‑Transfers require manual treasury approval, so minor delays may occur.
